Had a couple of spare hours & 2 sheds of scrap so I came up with this... I've seen them on youtube so it might work or might not, it's a 2000gallon/hour pump (7570 liters) so fingers crossed!! You can see from the second photo how it works (hopefully)

WELL........ Tested it this morning & it is hopeless in its present form.... :(
I have another idea which I will test & post if it works.....

My MkII version ;D

Hopefully this will be better, when the blue bucket is full of gold, it's time to go home!!!

With the first try, where you looking to get something similar to an effect as a dredge?

I find the gold and sand principle interesting, perhaps worth a look? :)
Either way, your first need is to get suction - can be difficult at times. The simpler the better.
Geologists are gneiss, tuff and a little wacke.

The first attempt was using the venturi effect of the pump but it just wouldn't work.... The second attempt needs a little fine tuning but has some serious suck, the main thing is to filter as many small stones out as possible before they go through the pump but the exhaust will have a flexi pipe to the nearby sluice feed tray in case any micro gold gets through.
I think that this bucket will fill quite quickly so everytime I empty it I will wipe the internal filter clean.
It's just a test for now but I will stick with it until I get something that works....
Cheers,
John.

Where did you get that pump?

That might be just what i need to complete my 12v dredge...!

I made a rather good and cheap suctionnozzel, but my Jula-pump didn't have the power to push the gravel thru the hose. With no hose attached the gravel sprayed white nicely thru the nozzle but with a hose the lack of power became a fact...

I got it at Erlandsons brygga but if I was to do it again I would get the 12v pump for pumping diesel from Biltema, i have read that that one would work better for what you need & is cheaper ;-) the one I have is good for volume but the Biltema one has some pressure behind it too which I believe will work better for you....

I just had mine in the bath at home ( my wife's not home! ) & it works good, sucked all of my kids glass marbles (balls) up & has a good suck at the nozzle. To get suction I have to have everything FULL of water including the black suction hose which is disconnected, start the pump & with my hand tight over the nozzle end I connect the suction hose quickly to pour water into the hink. As soon as water leaves the exhaust the suction nozzle goes under the water, there are then a few air farts then it works great...

That's it done, i'll fit a waterproof switch this week & take it to the river next Saturday, as you can see all solids are spun around inside the bucket & should stay at the sides, the filter is big so hopefully all of the gold will make it to the bottom, I'm thinking of putting the exhaust hose into a second bucket to allow any of the escaping sediment/concentrate to be captured.

Look like a cruel piece of machinery!

I'll have a look at Biltemas pump but I need both volume and preassure for the "mini-dredge"...

Going big is easy, going slim is harder... Haha!

Good luck on the irl test and jeep us posted!

Crimps & heat shrink on the cable joints tomorrow but this is basically how it's going to the river on Saturday........
80ah battery
10m of electric cable
2000gph pump
I have a spare solar panel & charge controller, would be easy to plug into that handy 12v socket  ;D

That's as far as it goes now until I test it at the river :)

I just can't help messing around with stuff!!
I am going to put straps on this so that it can be carried on my back over rough ground, when I get to a flat surface I can pull it on the wheels ;-)
The hoses & power cable are stored inside.
Just weighed it totally loaded... 31kg! I won't be carrying it too far ;)
